David Pike and his 2-axis Lightbot

I’m a Board Certified Dental Laboratory Technician with twenty four years of experience in the field. I’ve been employed at my current job for 18 years, and have been a department supervisor therefor 10 yrs.

I specialize in full and partial denture restorations. My clients regard me as an expert in precision attachments. I’ve done many implant-type restorations as well.

That is my day job. By night I make robots, music, and stay up too late playing w/ the computer ! Good night !

David Pike, ca. 2000

The ‘bot at upper left is a solar-powered art piece. Its wings flap. Its head turns towards the direction of the most incoming sunlight. An antenna twirls on top of the wing motor mount. This is a BEAM bot. BEAM is an acronym for Biology, Electronics, Aesthetics, Mechanics.

The ‘bots at the upper right are my three microcore bugs. The microcore circuit is patented by Mark Tilden. They have motor feed-back to alter their walking gait. The one in the middle has two of these circuits, and will be modified to detect objects and react to them.

The ‘bot at lower left is another BEAM bot. It was a wind-up toy that I modified. It stumbles around (I threw the center of gravity off) so I call it Borrachobot (borracho is Spanish for drunk).

At the lower right is Gordo, another art ‘bot. It looks for light on vertical and horizontal axes. It is made from a “bird-house” gourd.
